How does it work?

Becoming a resident at Betel is a transformative journey of choice and commitment. It begins with a voluntary decision to seek a fresh start in life, beginning with an initial phone interview. Upon admission, residents enter a welcoming, family-like environment where they're embraced by a community of support. While there's no strict, goal-oriented program, the emphasis is on making daily choices that align with values and aspirations of a healthier lifestyle, modeled by experienced peers.

  • Voluntary Admission: All residents join and leave voluntarily.

  • Minimum Commitment: We recommend a minimum stay of 12 to 18 months.

  • Interview Process: A simple telephone interview is required before admission, and a medically assisted detox is available for those who need it.

  • Quick Admission: After the interview, people are usually admitted within one to five days of their first contact.

  • Age Requirement: Residents must be 18 years or older.

Our method is to model freedom

Daily Choice

  • Daily Choice: Betel is not a rigid program; it's a daily commitment to a new and healthier lifestyle, as modelled by maturing Christians.

  • Personal Growth: Residents advance at their own pace, learning character-building principles and practicing them in daily life, both at home and at work.

  • Community Involvement: Community leaders and their families live on-site offering support and guidance. Graduates often become peer support staff.

The Steps

Responsibility & Self-Care

  • Rebuilding Lives: Our goal is to help residents rebuild their lives through shared decision making and community responsibility.

  • Learning and Responsibility: Residents gradually take on more responsibility for household duties and work roles as they become more stable and motivated.

  • Peer-Motivated Community: The result is a peer-motivated and guided community where residents help and support each other.

Success through family & work

  • Extended Family: Residents build meaningful relationships, inspiring hope and self-esteem in an atmosphere of acceptance and love.

  • Meaningful Work: Residents work in our charitable businesses to help fund their recovery, reducing the financial burden on families, the taxpayer and the government. Our social enterprises include: Furniture repair, Restoration and Upholstery; House Clearances; Garden Maintenance and Landscaping; Charity Shop Retail Sales; Restaurant Service and Culinary/Catering Skills.

  • Skill Building: Daily teamwork helps to build job skills, diligence, punctuality and self-esteem. Residents contribute positively to their family life and society upon leaving Betel. (Find out more about our businesses)
